Community & Outreach Volunteer

This volunteer will support community outreach efforts by helping build connections between our program and local organizations in Detroit and Allen Park. This may include identifying potential partners, sharing information about our work, and helping create opportunities that support students beyond the classroom. Responsibilities may shift overtime, but the focus will remain on strengthening relationships and expanding access to resources, programs, and opportunities for participants.

Data & Systems Improvement Volunteer

This volunteer will help improve how we use data and technology to run our programs more efficiently. Tasks may include organizing data, streamlining workflows, building simple automations, and exploring practical uses of AI tools. Responsibilities may shift based on project needs, but the focus will remain on reducing manual work and making systems easier for staff and partners to use.

Photography Volunteer

The Supporting Transition and Employment Pathways Lab (STEP Lab) at the University of Michigan School of Social Work seeks a volunteer photographer to accompany team members at events and/or facilitated learning sessions, capturing stills and/or video content for distribution across STEP Lab’s digital platforms. These events may include speaking opportunities or gatherings in Ann Arbor or learning sessions at school classrooms in the wider Detroit area. Any images captured by the volunteer photographer will receive photo credit wherever published, and some of the images may be used in the photographer’s professional portfolio.

Visual Content & Storytelling Volunteer

The Supporting Transition and Employment Pathways Lab (STEP Lab) at the University of Michigan School of Social Work seeks a volunteer content creator to produce short videos for the Lab. This volunteer would be responsible for creating short video explainers that describe various aspects of STEP Lab’s work and/or creating videos that will be used in a teaching environment. These videos may be created using STEP Lab’s Powtoon account(an AI-powered animated video platform), or a similar software for creating video shorts. These videos will either be shared to STEP Lab’s digital platforms or incorporated into learning programs as part of a set of curricula.
