Job Description:

The Student Research Assistant will support school-based research and program activities focused on helping youth with disabilities build employment readiness, soft skills, and successful postsecondary transitions. This position provides hands-on experience in research, program implementation, community engagement, and data management. Student Research Assistants work closely with project staff to support classroom activities, collect and organize research data, assist with curriculum and training materials, conduct outreach to schools and community partners, and contribute to project evaluation and reporting efforts.

Required Qualifications:

• Enrolled undergraduate or graduate student able to commit 15–20 hours per week.
• Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills, with attention to detail.
• Basic proficiency with Google Workspace and/or Dropbox
• Familiarity with qualitative research methods and/or research tools such as REDCap, Qualtrics, NVivo, SPSS, or similar platforms.
• Ability to work independently after training, manage multiple responsibilities, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
• Interest in disability inclusion, youth development, education, workforce development, or community-based research.
• Willingness to learn new research methods, technologies, and project management tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with youth, particularly high school students, through educational, mentoring, community, or recreational programs.
• Interest or experience in classroom support, group facilitation, tutoring, mentoring, or youth engagement activities.
• Interest or experience developing educational, outreach, training, or communication materials.
• Coursework or experience in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Public Health, Rehabilitation, Disability Studies, or a related field.

Educational Value:

• Support research activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, surveys, focus groups, interviews, and data organization.
• Assist with classroom-based program implementation by helping facilitate activities, preparing materials, supporting student engagement, and tracking participation.

The Supporting Transition and Employment Pathways (STEP) Lab is dedicated to advancing disability inclusion so individuals with disabilities can fully participate in all aspects of life. Housed within the University of Michigan School of Social Work, STEP Lab conducts community-based research focused on youth employment readiness, school-based interventions, and workforce development.

We are seeking a part-time Research Assistant to support a range of research, program, and operational activities across STEP Lab initiatives. This role is ideal for someone who can balance multiple types of work, including research support, workshop facilitation, communication with partners, curriculum and content development, and project coordination. They will work closely with the project team to help move work forward across several active initiatives. This position requires strong organization, communication, and the ability to take initiative in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Responsibilities:

• Support implementation of research and program activities, including participant recruitment, data collection, focus groups, interviews, and assessments.
• Assist with classroom-based program delivery by supporting curriculum facilitation, student engagement, attendance tracking, and session logistics.
• Conduct outreach and maintain communication with schools, community service providers, employers, participants, and other project partners.
• Manage project data, including data entry, organization, quality assurance, and documentation to support reporting and evaluation activities.
• Assist with data analysis and preparation of reports, presentations, and project summaries.
• Coordinate project activities, timelines, meetings, and documentation across multiple research and program initiatives.
• Develop and update curriculum materials, training resources, outreach materials, and other project content.
• Support community engagement activities, including school visits, partner meetings, recruitment events, and stakeholder outreach.
• Perform additional research, programmatic, and administrative tasks as needed to support project goals.

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to support the implementation and coordination of community-based participatory research projects. This role includes coordinating multi-site studies, managing research operations and data systems, supporting regulatory compliance, supervising research staff, and collaborating with community and academic partners.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate day-to-day research operations across multiple community-based projects and study sites
• Support study development activities, including protocols, assessments, recruitment materials, and curriculum adaptation
• Prepare and manage IRB submissions, amendments, continuing reviews, and compliance documentation
• Manage participant screening, intake, consent, scheduling, and follow-up processes
• Coordinate participant recruitment and engagement activities in virtual and in-person settings
• Support the development and maintenance of research databases and tracking systems (e.g., REDCap)
• Oversee data workflows including collection, organization, coding, quality monitoring, reporting, and secure data storage
• Conduct and summarize qualitative data coding using NVivo or related software
• Create and maintain training, outreach, implementation, and research materials
• Support project timelines, documentation, task tracking, and operational hand-offs across project teams
• Serve as a liaison between internal staff, external research partners, community partners, schools, and other stakeholders as needed
• Support the hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of research assistants and student staff
• Assist with grant-related activities, reports, presentations, and supporting documentation
• Attend and facilitate project meetings and community engagement activities as needed

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, disability studies, sociology, public health, or a related field
• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and problem-solve in fast-paced environments
• Experience with research or data management platforms (e.g., REDCap, Qualtrics, NVivo, Microsoft Excel)
